Extractor Fans

UK Building Regulations Part F requires intermittent extract ventilation in all kitchens and bathrooms. Extract fans remove moisture and pollutants at source, preventing condensation and mould growth. Bathroom fans must extract at least 15 litres per second, kitchen fans at least 30 l/s when cooking, or 60 l/s for extractors within 300mm of hobs.

Extract fans come in three types: standard axial fans (cheapest, noisiest), centrifugal inline fans (quieter, better for long duct runs), and whole-house extract systems (central unit with multiple extraction points). Humidity-sensing fans switch on automatically when moisture is detected, ensuring Part F compliance without manual switching. Correct sizing, duct routing, and external terminals are critical for performance and Building Control sign-off.
